Behind the Scenes: Baymeadows Movers Partners with Chipman and OMA to Haul Away Legacy Equipment from AMC Theatres

July 20, 2026

Most folks walk into a movie theater thinking about the movie they're about to watch. They see the giant screen, comfortable seats, and maybe the smell of freshly popped popcorn. What they don't see is everything happening behind the scenes to make that experience a reality—or what it takes when it's time to replace decades of gear and open the door for the future.

Recently, Baymeadows Movers had the opportunity to partner with Chipman Relocation & Logistics on a one-of-a-kind commercial moving project through our membership in the Office Moving Alliance (OMA). As a team, we helped with the removal of outdated projection equipment from several AMC Theatre locations. It was not your typical commercial move. It demanded careful planning, specialized equipment, experienced crews, and seamless coordination between reliable relocation partners.

Projects like these are part of why we love what we do. No two commercial moves are ever quite the same, and that's what makes our work rewarding.

Every Commercial Move Has a Story

Every Commercial Move Has a StoryAmong the best parts of commercial moving is the range of work.

During one week we're moving an entire school before students return for the new year. The next we're delivering physical therapy equipment to a new healthcare facility. Next we find ourselves inside a movie theater, methodically dismantling and removing equipment that has entertained millions of people over the years.

This AMC project was particularly memorable because it entailed removing large digital cinema projection systems, together with several pieces of historic 35mm projection equipment. Walking into the projection booths felt like traveling back in time. Some of the film projectors and reels had been part of the movie-going experience long before digital projection was established as the standard in the industry.

For film fans, it was riveting.

For our crew, it was a reflection that every piece of equipment we move carries its own history.

Great Projects Begin with Careful Planning

Great Projects Begin with Careful PlanningMoves like this don't start when the moving truck shows up.

Long before the first projector is unplugged, our team maps out logistics, scheduling, entry points, equipment requirements, manpower, and safety planning.

Collaborating with Chipman Relocation & Logistics, we oversaw every phase of the project to make sure each theater could be completed efficiently and safely. One of the top advantages of being part of the Office Moving Alliance (OMA) is gaining access to a nationwide network of seasoned commercial movers who uphold the same dedication to professionalism and customer service. By combining Chipman's national relocation expertise with Baymeadows Movers' local knowledge and project management experience, we were able to execute the work smoothly from start to finish.

Cinemas weren't designed with equipment removal in mind.

Projection booths are often tucked away on upper levels with slim passageways, tight doorways, and limited access. Some sites have elevators, while others do not. Relocating large projection systems through those spaces demands much more than simply loading them onto a dolly and heading for the truck.

Every challenge must be identified before work even begins.

That's when experience makes the difference.

It's All About Much More Than Just Muscle

It's All About Much More Than Just MusclePeople often assume moving heavy equipment is purely about brute strength.

The reality is that commercial moving comes down to preparation and planning, technique, and having the right tools for the job.

Jobs like the AMC equipment removal demand specialized dollies, rigging equipment, lift systems, protective materials, and experienced crews who know how to safely navigate oversized equipment through confined spaces.

Each projector had to be thoughtfully disconnected, protected, maneuvered through the building, and securely loaded for transport.

Most of these systems are not only heavy—they're also extremely delicate. One accidental bump into a doorway or uneven transition could cause significant damage.

Patience and communication are no less important than raw strength.

Safeguarding the Building Is Just as Important

While our focus is on safely moving equipment, we're just as committed to safeguarding the customer's facility.

Commercial properties represent a significant investment, and even minor repairs can prove costly and disruptive.

When a job is complete, our goal is for customers to remember how smoothly it all went, not the moving process itself.

Working Together Makes the Difference

Sizable commercial moving projects are never a single-person task.

Every member of the crew has a specific role, and communication is essential from beginning to end.

One team member may be guiding equipment through a doorway while another controls the load. Someone else is watching clearances, while another crew member is readying the next piece for transport.

When seasoned crews work together, there is a rhythm that takes shape. That's expertise that can't be taught overnight.

Seeing our team work together was a clear example of what happens when veteran movers share the same commitment to safety, communication, and customer service.

A Little Fun Along the Way

Baymeadows Moving and Storage team having a little funEven during high-pressure commercial projects, it's worthwhile to appreciate the experience.

Being employed inside movie theaters certainly had its perks.

Our crew couldn't help heading downstairs for a few movie snacks in between project tasks. After spending the day behind the scenes where not many people ever get to go, popcorn somehow tasted even better.

These moments help make long workdays memorable and remind us that while we take our work seriously, we also love what we do.

Commercial Moving Is More Than Transportation

Commercial Moving Is More Than TransportationPlenty of people believe moving companies simply load trucks and unload them somewhere else.

Commercial moving is far more than that.

These projects often involve logistics planning, inventory management, warehousing, project management, scheduling, handling of specialized equipment, and coordinating several contractors.

Every customer has different needs.

Some businesses need to relocate hundreds of employees over a weekend.

Others need sensitive medical equipment relocated without disruption.

Many projects happen overnight to limit downtime.

Others—like the AMC project—entail carefully extracting specialized equipment from unique environments.

Every relocation requires flexibility, preparation, and problem solving.

Here at Baymeadows Movers, when somebody asks, "Can you help with this?" our first thought is almost always, "Let's figure out how."

Hands-On Experience Builds Confidence

For decades, Baymeadows Movers has faithfully served Jacksonville and Northeast Florida, and we've come to understand that smooth projects always hinge on the same basics:

Preparation.

Communication.

Professionalism.

Trust.

Our customers know we'll show up prepared, keep them informed throughout the project, handle their property with care, and solve problems instead of creating them.

Whether we're working inside schools, hospitals, office buildings, warehouses, government facilities, entertainment venues, or commercial campuses, our approach remains the same.

Protect the customer.

Protect the equipment.

Complete the work safely.

Leave the site better than we found it.

Safeguarding a Part of Movie History

Safeguarding a Part of Movie HistoryAmong the surprising highlights of this project was encountering some of the original 35mm projection systems that once brought so many movies to life.

Well before streaming services and digital cinema, these machines produced lasting experiences for generations of moviegoers.

Standing beside them gave our crew a real appreciation for how much technology has progressed over the years.

It's not every day that a moving company has the chance to help retire a small piece of entertainment history.

For us, it was an experience we'll never forget.
